Brother apps with the same functionality but different names and appearances

公開日: 更新日:

Hello! 😃

There are all kinds of people in the world, aren't there?

When creating systems, websites, or apps, we always consider how to make them usable for as many people as possible. ☺️

  • Those who enjoy things that are easy to understand.
  • Those who enjoy things for their aesthetic appearance or resonance.

And so on.

However, the desired functionality beyond that is often the same, which means branding is an extremely difficult challenge for us. 💭

When users have different sensibilities and expectations, you naturally want to change the design and the language.

So, I thought, why not:

  • Take an app that is largely the same at its core,
  • Change its name and appearance, and then
  • Evolve it in a way that matches its specific characteristics.

I believe this would be a good approach.

By standardizing the core functionality, we can deliver different user experiences through surface-level branding while maintaining development costs and quality.

For example, simply changing the UI theme, wording, and tone of explanatory text allows us to cater to those who prioritize reliability and those who are drawn to aesthetic sensibility. 😀

From an emotional perspective, it's also important whether users feel that "it's tailored to me."

Just by having a different appearance or naming, a sense of attachment and trust can emerge, right?

Therefore, I thought that a "sibling app" strategy would be a user-diversity-friendly approach. ☺️

Of course, there will be challenges from an operational and support perspective, but by nurturing them incrementally through A/B testing, we can reduce risks.

Wouldn't you be interested in trying out "sibling apps" that offer the same functionality but create different impressions through their appearance and name? 💭✨
